Overview

Alexander MacGregor’s grandparents, John and Anne MacGregor, and their three sons emigrated to the United States from Scotland in 1785. One son, James, and his wife Elizabeth Cameron were the parents of Alexander MacGregor, the founder of MacGregor.
Alexander arrived to northeast Iowa when the Sioux, Sac, Fox and Winnebago tribes still occupied the area. They owned all of the rich fur-bearing land. They were later removed. In 1837 Alexander bought a ferry business and invested in land in Iowa. He and his partner ferried goods and people from Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin to MacGregor’s landing in Iowa.
